Jury selection to start
Jury selection is scheduled for Monday in the case of an Elgin man charged in the shooting death of a Streamwood teen. David Luna, 20, of 2020 Aronomink Circle, is accused of participating in a Nov. 5, 2006, encounter that left 17-year-old Anthony Brown dead. Authorities say Luna and friend Daniel Vargas had met up with a friend of Brown's earlier that day and handed over about $2,000 for drugs they never received. When Luna and Vargas went to the friend's home later that night demanding their cash back, Brown was there too, authorities say, and he got caught up in a scuffle that ended with Vargas shooting him. Vargas and Luna then drove off, eventually crashing their car, police say. Vargas was convicted by a jury in December of murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm and attempted murder -- for extra shots he fired at another man as he ran off. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison.
