Vote for a loyal Republican soldier

To the editor: Year after year the precinct captains of the Regular Republican Organization of Elk Grove Township, which includes large parts of Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights, have gathered signatures for political candidates, made phone calls to get the vote out, got yards signs up, walked precincts, dropped off literature, raised money, endorsed those candidates, held candidate forums, helped obtain Republican election judges, and much, much more. Most importantly, they VOTED for those candidates.

These are unpaid volunteer positions and obviously thankless duties. They take hours and hours. Laura Bartell did all of these things for many candidates, including the current state representative, over many years as a precinct captain and deputy committeeman in charge of many precincts, not to mention her duties as secretary of the organization.

And what was Laura's reward when she decided to run for Illinois state representative?

The current "Republican" state representative, a major beneficiary of all that organization work, who is retiring, endorsed Laura Bartell right? Wrong!

Instead the endorsement went to a candidate that has NOT VOTED in 10 years. The most important civic duty in this county was ignored. This person was not even a member of the organization until recently, holds no positions with the organization, and never did any of the volunteer activities listed above. I guess some "Republicans" have no loyalty and a very short memory.

The endorsee pretends to be a fiscal conservative. So far the residents have had to endure, during her 10-year watch as a trustee for little Elk Grove Village (which is a small portion of Elk Grove Township), numerous tax increases, fee increases and huge expenditures fighting expansion. In addition, this endorsee, who claims to be a fiscal conservative, is on the record as in favor of increases in the "real estate transfer tax and a small increase in alcohol, tobacco and gas tariffs."

This kind of fiscal conservativism is killing me. Even the Daily Herald sensed Bartell is "more conservative."

I'm for Laura Bartell. I have a good memory and will show loyalty by going to vote for a real Republican fiscal conservative, Laura Bartell.
