DuPage County briefs
Support for medical building:
The Oak Brook Village Board agreed to contribute $125,000 toward York Road improvements needed for a new three-story medical office building at York and I-88. The board also agreed to cap Irgens Development Partners' building permit fees at $70,000 as an incentive. The developer is putting two left-turn lanes on York that also will benefit residents of a nearby subdivision, said Village Manager David Niemeyer. The project is a "Class A" office building that will house 50 doctors and 130 staff members. "In today's economy, (attracting) 180 good-paying jobs is quite good, obviously," Niemeyer said.
Holiday patrols:
The Villa Park police will be increasing patrols during the two-week Christmas/New Year's holiday period (Dec. 18-Jan. 3, 2010) for alcohol and drug enforcement. The increased patrols are in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Transportation's Holiday Mobilization Grant and the Mini-Alcohol Map Program obtained by the Villa Park Police Department.
Commemorative ornament:
West Chicago City Museum's 2009 commemorative ornament depicts the iconic West Chicago Tastee-Freez. The ice cream shop, famous for its soft-serve treats, was built in 1955 along Fremont Street and recently was restored by its owners. Packaged in a presentation box that includes a short history of the subject, the West Chicago Tastee-Freez ornament is $8, payable by cash or check to the Friends of the West Chicago City Museum, at two locations: the museum, 132 Main Street, or city hall, 475 Main Street. Quantities are limited. For information, call (630) 231-3376.
