Focus on morality of health care bill
Back in the '70s, I remember my parents arguing that abortion would lead to euthanasia. After connecting the dots, the moral and political conditions that would enable this to happen are now here.
If you do a Web search of 'Quality Adjusted Life Years' you will find that your medical rights will be defined by a mathematical formula defined by Washington bureaucrats. If you have a handicapped child, or if you become incapacitated or just don't age very well, the new health care system will balance the costs and benefits of keeping a handicapped child, you with a disability or you in your old age alive.
And even if you have the money, it may be worthless in the new medical economy that is buried in the 2,000 pages of the health care legislation. Like a credit score, many of us will have a 'scarlet number' which we will wear in shame because our bodies will eventually be deemed less than salvageable. Everyone's "cost" will one day exceed their "benefit."
I wish the news media would focus less on the cost of the bill and more on the morality of it. Science fiction authors saw this coming. And if we use our imaginations as we read the news (between the lines), we too can see what's coming and what it will mean for us and our loved ones. Many of us don't trust Washington with our money, yet we are about to be thrust into a position where we trust them with our bodies.
They can't balance a budget, wait until you see their math applied to your life. Count your blessings and your liberties now, and have compassion for sheep being led to the slaughter ... for their not knowing what was coming. Just like us.
