Lake County briefs

Leaders want input:

Fox Lake officials are still looking for residents and business owners to complete their online gaming survey to determine if the board should allow businesses to install video poker machines in the village. The survey can be found at the village's Web site at foxlake.org. People who either live in Fox Lake or own a business in Fox Lake are urged to complete the survey. The board is expected to take the information from the survey and use it at some point in January.

Robber going to jail:

A Lake Zurich man who pleaded guilty to robbing a 71-year-old woman earlier this year was sentenced Monday to three years of periodic imprisonment. Marc Marchini, 23, will spend the next three years at the Lake County jail and only will be released for drug treatment at first, Assistant State's Attorney Marykay Foy said. After he completes treatment, he can be released only to attend school or work, Foy said. Marchini must also complete 200 hours of public service. Marchini pleaded guilty to robbery Nov. 5. He was arrested in September after robbing the woman as she made a bank deposit. Marchini had worked with the woman at a local store, authorities said.

Library renovation complete:

The $880,000, second-floor renovation of the main Palatine Library is complete and patrons recently turned out to celebrate at an open house. Nearly 5,000 square feet of staff space was transformed for public use, including a larger, 16-seat computer training lab. Three group study rooms and a small self-serve cafe area were also added to the library, located at 700 N. North Court. The project was paid for using the library's special reserve fund. The Palatine Public Library District serves about 90,000 residents.
