Elburn drug death suspect faces new charges

A Maple Park man accused of obstructing justice in an Elburn teen's heroin-related death was charged Monday with assaulting Kane County jail guards.

Police said Nathan L. Green, 23, struggled with officers after refusing to return to his cell following a "shakedown" inspection Nov. 4 at the jail in St. Charles.

Lt. Pat Gengler said the incident happened about 7:30 a.m., and corrections officers "had to physically place him back into the cell."

"There was a struggle," Gengler said.

Green is one of three people charged with felony obstructing justice in the late 2007 death of 17-year-old Michael York.

Prosecutors say Green and two others left York's body on a Chicago street following his apparent heroin overdose at a party in St. Charles to avoid prosecution.

He also was charged with felony delivery of a controlled substance in the death of York and, now, two counts of resisting a corrections officer and aggravated assault.

Green is due back in court Dec. 8.
