Briefs: HDTVs rank high on holiday lists
OAKBROOK TERRACE -- High definition televisions and high-end game consoles are at the top of holiday wish lists, according to the results of a new Web poll conducted by the Computing Technology Industry Association. The "most wanted" high-tech toy this holiday season is a high-definition TV, selected by 15.2 percent of the 1,012 individuals who participated in the poll. The newest versions of the three leading gaming consoles claimed the next three spots. Sony's PlayStation 3 placed second in the poll, Wii from Nintendo was third and Microsoft's Xbox 360 placed fourth.
Lab test to identify cancer drug effects
WESTMONT -- Targeted Molecular Diagnostics announced Wednesday the commercial availability of a new laboratory test to help identify colorectal cancer patients who are resistant to certain targeted monoclonal antibody therapies. K-ras mutations are known to be associated with resistance to drug inhibitors, especially in non-small cell lung cancer. Mutated K-ras genes have been detected in about 40 percent of metastatic colorectal cancers.
