West Chicago man arrested on charges of sexual assault
A West Chicago man was arrested early Thursday after authorities said he returned to the home of a woman who accused him of rape last month and apologized.
Salvador Alvarado, 37, is charged with home invasion and aggravated criminal sexual assault. He faces six to 30 years in prison if convicted.
DuPage Associate Judge Brian Diamond set a $1 million bond. Alvardo must post 10 percent as bail to be released.
Alvardo is accused of breaking into a woman's house Sept. 21 on the 700 block of Pine Street in West Chicago and sexually assaulting her while she was home alone. Authorities said the two did not know each other. Before leaving, Alvardo is accused of apologizing and professing his love.
Authorities said Alvarado returned Thursday to apologize again with the hope the woman would forgive him and agree to a romantic relationship.
Alvarado, 247 North Neltnor Blvd., has a criminal history that includes two misdemeanor convictions for theft and battery in DuPage County.
He remained in the DuPage County jail late Thursday.
