Basketball

Corsairs tryouts: The Junior Corsairs Basketball Program offers an opportunity for sixth- to eighth-grade boys to compete against various teams from Lake and Cook counties. Tryout dates and times for all levels are 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. Nov. 8, noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 11 and 7:15 to 9:15 p.m. Nov. 15. Practices and home games will be held at Carmel High School.

Skills lessons: All the basics for kids in speed and agility, such as ball handling, shooting, post moves and advanced guard skills, are covered in private lessons with an ex-European professional. For more information, call Toron Clark at (847) 791-5033.

Football

Flames vs. Wildcats: Coming off a victory against Huntley, the Lake Zurich Flames Big 10 Middleweights, playing in The Chicagoland Youth Football League, were defeated 30-16 by the Plainfield Junior Wildcats on Oct. 13.

Plainfield's possession of the ball led to a punt that was blocked by Lake Zurich's Michael Hagan and picked up by Anthony Tinaglia on Plainfield's 4-yard line. A series by quarterback Noah Allgood and running backs Luke Yankoe, Colton Wagner and Steven Demmert was stopped by their opponent's defense. An attempted pass by Plainfield off the 4-yard line was picked off by Camden Kuksa.

A pitch from quarterback Jack Boliaux to Kuksa on the 30-yard line was run in for a touchdown but called back for a holding penalty. Kuksa dragged a host of Plainfield players on his back for his next run up the sideline to the 5-yard line. Another Boliaux-to-Kuksa handoff netted the Flames their first touchdown. In another series, quarterback Charlie Spatoulas threw to Kuksa on Plainfield's 25-yard line. Kuksa then bombed a 25-yard pass up the center to Hagan for another Flames score. Both extra points were successfully made by A.J. Trittschuh. Offensive linemen Allgood, Mitchell Zovnic, Noah Eszak, Hagan, James DeGeorge, Yankoe and Anthony Tinaglia put up a fine effort with their blocks.

Lake Zurich's kickoff was booted downfield, and Plainfield's receiver broke through the charging Flames special teams line. Wagner stopped what appeared to be another Plainfield touchdown at the 20-yard line.

Quarterback sacks were made by Hagan and Boliaux. Tackles were contributed by DeGeorge, Kuksa, Brett Blum, Brandon Arteaga, Demmert, Tony Anagnostopoulos, Zovnic, Tinaglia, Wagner, and Yankoe.

The Flames are led by Head Coach Guy Boliaux, Offensive Coordinator Dan Kuksa and assistants Marc Allgood, John Wagner and Ron Ezsak.

Hockey

Patriots vs. Ramblers: The Stevenson Patriots JV Hockey team hosted the Loyola Ramblers in a Metro Conference game Oct. 19 at Glacier arena. The Patriots achieved a 6-1 victory, making their Metro record 2-0.

Tyler St. Martin scored two goals on a tip-in and a backhander. Jake Scott scored his first goal of the season with a wrist shot over the Loyola goalie's left shoulder. Shots from the point by Nick Fasano and Max Mora eventually resulted in two more goals. Jake Gould scored after a clean faceoff win by Wayne Glickstern. The Patriots held Loyola to 7 shots on goal and only one got past goalie Josh Schmaren.

After the game, coach Meo said, "I was particularly pleased with the offensive output, and I hope we can continue it in our next game against Glenbrook South."

Volleyball

Sky High Girls Tryouts: Sky High Girls Volleyball tryouts will be held at the following times and locations.

• 15-year-olds -- Next tryout, 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday; final tryout, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at Sky High Athletic Center, Crystal Lake.

• 16-year-olds -- Next tryout, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, final tryout, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Nov. 11 at Sky High Athletic Center, Crystal Lake.

• 16-/15-year-olds --Next tryout, 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday; final tryout, 1 to 2:30 p.m., Nov. 11 at Prairie Stone Sports & Wellness Center, Hoffman Estates.

• 18/17-year-olds -- Next tryout, 4:30 to 6 p.m., Nov. 4; final tryout, 3 to 4:30 p.m., Nov. 11 at Prairie Stone Sports & Wellness Center, Hoffman Estates.

• Note -- The 18-/17-year-old regional tryout will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Sky High Athletic Center, Crystal Lake.
