Glen Ellyn photos on display

Six photographs depicting scenes from Glen Ellyn now are on display at the Glen Ellyn Civic Center. Taken by Erik Peterson, the photos include two panoramic images of the 2008 holiday tree lighting and a scene from the 2009 Fourth of July parade. The other large-canvas prints show woods, a bench, fireworks and the bathhouse at Lake Ellyn. The photos, which will remain on display next year, may be viewed during village meetings.

Group to learn about Aurora

Members of Aurora's community services department will discuss how they work to serve the city during an appearance at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, when the Georgetown Relief Efforts Neighborhood Organization meets in room 100 of the Eola Community Center, 555 S. Eola Road. The department is involved in the city's special events, public information, arts and culture, neighborhood redevelopment, customer service and youth services. The program is free. Park district discusses plans

Naperville Park District will discuss plans for numerous projects planned for 2010-2011 during an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Riverwalk Community Center, 305 W. Jackson Ave. Work is scheduled at numerous sites, including Columbia Commons, Eagle Park, East Greens Park, Kroehler Park, Pembroke Park, Springhill Greenway, West Greens, White Eagle Park, Willowgate Square and Wil-O-Way Park. Author to visit Cantigny

The public is invited to attend a Wednesday night appearance by author and historian James Carl Nelson at the First Division Museum in Cantigny Park near Wheaton. Nelson will talk about his just-released book "The Remains of Company D: A Story of the Great War" during the 7:30 p.m. presentation. The book follows the World War I experiences of a small group of soldiers from Company D, 28th Infantry Regiment, First Division. Wednesday's event, which includes a book signing, is part of the First Division Museum's A Date with History series. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
