Bartlett Hawks

Coach Denise Sarna, (6th year at Bartlett, 181-114 career record)

Conference Upstate Eight

Last year 17-11 (7-3 UEC). Note IHSA records reflect last year's record as 0-28 after Bartlett was forced to forfeit its 17 wins due to an ineligible player.

Top returners Senior Nicolle Gutzwiller (5-8 G); juniors Nicole Beck (5-8 G), Christina Carlson (6-0 F), Jacki Gulczynski (6-1 G/F); sophomores Katie Gutzwiller (5-9 G), Haley Videckis (5-11 F), Kristin Conniff (6-0 G/F)

Top newcomers Juniors Taylor Builox (5-9 F), Briana Kulbeda (5-8 F); sophomores Janessa Baker (5-5 G), Lisa Palmer (5-10 F)

Outlook With seven returning players, the Hawks still only have one senior on the roster. But they have a vast amount of experience back from a team that went 17-11 and finished third in the Upstate Eight before the IHSA wiped out the 17 wins over the eligibility of now departed sophomore guard Ashley Santos (transferred to Geneva). "We've been pretty young the last couple of years so hopefully this year we have some experience on our side," said Sarna. The go-to is Gulczynski, who is drawing major college interest. She was second in the area in scoring last year (15.1 ppg) and led the area in rebounding (9.5 per game) as well as being third in free-throw percentage (79.1). "Jacki's our standout and I've been getting a lot of college coaches calling about her," Sarna said. Beck will take over the point guard spot and the Hawks have a plethora of size with Carlson, Videckis and Conniff all having matured with a varsity season behind them. "Nicole Beck worked really hard in the offseason," Sarna said. "She's much stronger and her experience is going to pay off. Haley and Christina started last year hurt and they're OK now. We're pretty deep. We've got nine kids who can start and we've got good speed, so if we can keep a fast pace going the depth could help us." The Hawks play a tough schedule again, including the Naperville Central/Benet Thanksgiving tournament and the Dundee-Crown Christmas tournament.
