Final day for 'Faces of War'

Friday, Nov. 13, is the final day to see the Geneva History Center's "Faces of War" exhibit examining the stories of Geneva veterans. See original photographs, correspondence and artifacts from Geneva's men and women who served in the military from the Black Hawk War to the modern age.

Let there be lights!

Get into the spirit of the holidays at Bolingbrook's Festival in Lights Holiday Extravaganza and Symphony in Lights Show. Festival in Lights highlights include horse and carriage rides, ice sculpting, holiday crafts, live reindeer, storytelling, visits with Santa Claus and the first Symphony in Lights Show of the season. The Symphony in Lights Show features more than 250,000 lights, embedded in thousands of feet of holiday foliage, along with the recorded music of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Festival events at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Promenade Bolingbrook, 631 E. Boughton Road, Bolingbrook. The Symphony in Lights Show continues on the hour from 6 to 9 p.m. nightly through Thursday, Dec. 31. Free. Visit thepromenadebolingbrook.com.

Talented faculty

The artwork of 26 full-time and adjunct College of Lake County art faculty members is featured in the new Faculty Art Exhibit. Exhibit is on display through Sunday, Dec. 13.

Native American Pow Wow

Experience the pageantry of a mini Pow Wow at Native American Pow Wow event. See six different dancing and costume styles - then learn to dance to the beat of a Native American drum.

Calling all craft lovers!

More than 200 indoor booths of handcrafted items from exhibitors from seven states are featured at the Harper College Festival of Arts and Crafts Show. Crafting fans can stock up on everything from personalized holiday ornaments to blown glass figures and mosaic birdbaths.

Plenty of postcards

The Lake County Discovery Museum's Postcard Art Competition and Exhibition showcases 36 original designs of postcard art - selected as finalists from 443 entries from artists in the United States, Canada, Japan and China. A variety of media, including watercolor, collage, digital art and photography, is featured. Work by local artists is included in the exhibit.

Chicago Kids Company presents a modern musical adaptation of "Alice in Wonderland," Lewis Carroll's children's classic about a girl who falls down a rabbit hole into a magical world.

Who were the prairie bandits?

Historian and Garfield Farm Museum volunteer Keith Ryder presents a program on prairie bandits. Ryder's lecture focuses on a loosely organized gang of horse thieves and counterfeiters who operated across Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio from 1835 to 1858.
