Time for a new Hubble has come

I was quite taken with a gentleman's letter to the editor in the Daily Herald regarding District 200's Hubble referendum. His stance was why should he vote to support the referendum when the school district hadn't taken care of the building throughout the years.

I can only assume that this gentleman is a very recent resident of District 200 because Hubble has been waiting their turn.

When we moved here 20 years ago, the district had just passed the first referendum in decades.

Decades.

For the gentleman who wondered why Hubble hadn't been maintained: Sir, maintenance had not been done to any building in District 200 until 20 years ago. Since that time, District 200 has been systematically updating the physical plants of all of our buildings.

It takes a long time to physically and financially address the needs of 18 very tired and outdated buildings.

In the interim, Hubble waited its turn. Thanks to voters who have put children's needs first and have supported the district's plan to renew these buildings, the past 20 years have been a renaissance period for our facilities and for our students.

Students have always been at the forefront of this renaissance. The students who attend Hubble are every bit as important as the students whose needs were addressed in the first building renovated.

Meanwhile, Hubble has patiently waited its turn. We are nearing the end of the renaissance of our facilities, yet it won't be complete until every building's children are taken care of.

The time has come.

The waiting is over.

It is Hubble's turn.

Please join me in supporting the renaissance of all buildings in District 200 by voting "yes" on Feb. 5 because it is what is right and what is needed for our students.

It is Hubble's turn.
