Hersey community raises $11,000 to fight pediatric cancer

The students, staff and community of John Hersey High School raised more than $11,000 Oct. 25 in support of pediatric cancer charities CureSearch and Bear Necessities. Nearly 200 people participated in the walk-a-thon and family fun day, entertained by student groups Heart and Soul, the Drumline, Poms and the band Rolling Thunder. CureSearch unites the Children's Oncology Group, the world's largest childhood cancer research organization, and the National Childhood Cancer Foundation in its mission to cure childhood cancer. Bear Necessities, whose mission is to eliminate pediatric cancer, shows support for children with cancer through its Small Miracles program, which includes granting special requests such as event tickets, family outings and special gifts.
