Red-light citations in works:
Naperville on Saturday will begin using red-light cameras to issue $100 citations for traffic violations at Diehl Road and Route 59 and Aurora and Ogden avenues. A 30-day warning period has been in effect at both intersections.
Famous Dave's closes:
Famous Dave's has closed its Naperville store along Ogden Avenue after the company was unable to renegotiate its lease, according to Brett Rainwater, director of operations for Famous Dave's of America. The company will continue to operate its 12 other restaurants in Illinois, including establishments in Lombard, Bolingbrook and Oswego. Officials said the Naperville restaurant closed Sunday.
State of Wheaton event:
The League of Women Voters of Wheaton will host a Nov. 19 public forum on the State of the Community at Franklin Middle School, 211 E. Franklin St., Wheaton. Mayor Michael Gresk, Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 school board President Andy Johnson and Wheaton Park District board President Phillip Luetkehans each will have seven minutes to speak to the audience. A question-and-answer session will follow. The doors will open at 7 p.m. followed by the speakers at 7:30 p.m.
Bags tournament coming up:
High school students from Naperville North, Naperville Central, Neuqua Valley and Waubonsie Valley high schools are invited to participate in the inaugural bags tournament sponsored by Naperville Park District Youth Ambassadors Program. The tournament will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, or until play is completed, at Central Park, 104 E. Benton Ave., Naperville. Each team of two participants pays $8 to enter. Participants are asked to register at their high school; the deadline is today. For details, call napervilleparks.org.
Park recognizes veterans:
Fox Valley Park District will recognize veterans during November with promotions, deals and discounts. Veterans, their spouses and children will receive free admission to the district's three fitness centers in Aurora: Eola Community Center, 555 S. Eola Road; Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave.; and Vaughan Athletic Center, 2121 W. Indian Trail. The district also is holding free Family Fun Nights from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 and from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 15 in the E-Fit interactive fitness room at Eola Center. In addition, veterans and their families will receive 10 percent discounts off their food bill at Orchard Valley Restaurant. The offer also applies to members of the National Guard and Reserves. Veterans and active members of the military need to show a valid military ID card.
Pantry seeks donations:
The People's Resource Center is seeking donations to serve more than 2,800 families in November. With each $15 donation, the center can offer a family a grocery gift card to purchase a turkey, their choice of a classic Thanksgiving side dishes and ethnic foods. Donations may be made at the Web site at peoplesrc.org or by sending a check payable to People's Resource Center with Thanksgiving written on the memo line to 201 S. Naperville Road, Wheaton, IL 60187.
