Grayslake Central advances downstate

Grayslake Central's boys golf team is headed downstate.

Playing in the Class 2A Wheaton Academy sectional at Pheasant Run Country Club on Monday, the Rams earned one of the two available state berths, as their 316 edged Crystal Lake Central by one stroke for second place.

Prairie Ridge (320) and Grayslake North (321) finished fourth and fifth.

Wheaton Academy, led by medalist David Flynn's 3-under 69, won going away by shooting a 297.

Grayslake Central was paced by junior Eric Hogenkamp's 72 and senior Dylan Granquist's 75. The Rams also got an 84 from Cody Stover, matching 85s from Nick Wysocki and Jackson White, and an 87 from Colton Brunk.

Among the individual state qualifiers were Grayslake North's Sean Humphrey and Vernon Hills' Erik Hencier (77).

The Class 2A state meet is Friday and Saturday at Weibring Golf Club on the campus of Illinois State University.
