Mount Prospect library to host free dog training seminar
Professional dog trainer Alex Brooks will be at the Mount Prospect Library for a dog training seminar on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. The seminar is free and open to the public. Live demonstrations are included.
Alex Brooks is the owner of the Alex Brooks Canine Center in Des Plaines. His seminar, "Training To Be Top Dog: Guiding Your Pet To Good Behavior" will cover a variety of training and behavioral issues including how to train an aggressive, timid or overactive dog; basic commands; controlling excessive barking; leash training; tips for purchasing a dog; the differences between pet shops, private breeders and shelter dogs; understanding your dog's body language, and how to introduce a new dog into the home or to an existing dog. A question-and-answer session follows the seminar.
Brooks is a newspaper columnist and a frequent guest on Comcast cable TV's "Contempo" show. Brooks has trained dogs for athletes including Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Brooks has served as an expert witness for the Department of Animal Control of Cook County, and has trained dogs for the K-9 units of several police departments.
Brooks volunteers his expertise to animal shelters by training stray and abandoned dogs to become more adoptable. He also trains dogs for physically handicapped people to improve their independence and quality of life. Brooks instructs dog owners how to communicate with their pets in the dog's natural language, and how to fulfill their dog's instinctive need for leadership.
The Mount Prospect Library is located at 10 S. Emerson St. Reservations for the seminar are required. Call the library at (847) 253-5675 to reserve seats.
