Barrington duo rallies for MSL second doubles title

Seniors Dana Pierce and Annie Washburn finally completed a perfect finish for Mid-Suburban League girls tennis champion Barrington on Thursday.

The Fillies' No. 2 doubles team came back after their Tuesday match was suspended by darkness and won all four third-set games at Heritage Tennis Club in Arlington Heights to complete a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Buffalo Grove freshmen Dana and Lauren Goggin.

"We set out to try to sweep and we did," said Barrington coach Tracy Waters of winning all seven titles at singles and doubles. "It was just a good win today and they went in and played well."

Pierce won her fourth straight MSL title at second doubles and Washburn won the MSL second singles title last year. They are 20-2 at second doubles this year.

"Dana has the experience and that always pays off," Waters said. "Annie brought a whole new level of energy into (Thursday)."
