Downers Grove man charged with leaving accident scene
A 26-year-old Downers Grove man is facing a felony count of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident in in McHenry Saturday night, authorities said.
Michael J. Falco is facing up to three years in prison if convicted of the felony count that also left three small children slightly injured following the accident at 11:53 p.m. Saturday night on McCullom Lake Road in McHenry.
A female driver was heading west on McCullom Lake Road in McHenry when she was hit in the passenger side of her minivan by Falco's Dodge Ram pickup near Richmond Road. Falco allegedly pulled out of the McHenry Walmart near the intersection and into the door of her van, authorities said.
Police said, in the accident, the front license plate of the truck was torn off and police recovered it at the scene.
In addition, Falco was followed by a witness to the accident, but Falco eventually lost the tail after driving past the accident scene and through an apartment complex in the area.
The female was driving with three small children in the car - ages 1, 3, and 5 - who were taken to Centegra Hospital - McHenry. The three were checked out and released with minor cuts and bruises.
Falco did eventually call police to report the accident at 2 p.m. Saturday. He was taken into custody but posted $1,000 bond and was released. He is due back in court on Oct. 30.
Aside from the felony charge, he was cited for failure to yield.
