Nashville signs Ellis to entry-level contract

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Nashville Predators have signed defenseman Ryan Ellis, their top 2009 draft pick, to a three-year entry-level contract.

General manager David Poile announced the deal Monday. Ellis was the 11th pick overall in the entry draft in June.

Ellis, 18, helped Windsor win the Ontario Hockey League title last season, and he lead the league's defensemen in points (89), goals (22) and assists (67). He already has 10 assists and a plus-7 rating in seven games with Windsor this season.

He won a gold medal at the 2009 World Junior Championships. Ellis was in camp with Nashville in September and played in the first preseason game against Atlanta.
