Briefs: Addison library fundraiser

Parents and pet owners can commemorate their child's handprint or pet's paw print in glass at the new Addison Public Library building. Each 7-by-7-inch block costs $150 and has room for a child's handprint and the name of the child. Samples are available at the library, 2 Friendship Plaza, and you can place your order from Oct. 1 through Nov. 18. Payment is due when orders are placed. Children 10 and younger also can win a glass block. Each day a child checks out a book from Oct. 1 to Nov. 18, he or she earns one ticket for a special drawing by taking the book receipt to the Ask Me Desk. In addition, the Addison Rotary Club is sponsoring a raffle for a glass block handprint. Tickets are $1 and may be purchased at the library's circulation desk. The winning ticket will be drawn Nov. 17. For details, call (630) 458-3328. Leave a message and your call will be returned.

Library pairs with Dist. 87

Glenbard High School District 87 students soon will have access to more books and other materials thanks to a new agreement between the school system and the Glen Ellyn Public Library. The school board approved a reciprocal borrowing agreement with the Glen Ellyn Library that will benefit Glenbard South and Glenbard West high school students. In return, the school staff would provide the library with alerts on assignments that would require public library resources, summer reading lists and a copy of the annual yearbook. The library initiated the partnership. District administrators hope to establish similar agreements with other local public libraries.

Police seeking woman

Aurora police are seeking information that might help them find a 57-year-old woman who has been missing since 2003. Bertha A. Salgado-Ponce, of the 900 block of North Avenue, went missing sometime after Sept. 14, 2003, police said, after calling a relative to say she had arrived in Juarez, Mexico, where she was visiting family. No one has seen or heard from her since, police said. There's no evidence she's in danger at this time, police said, and she has disappeared for long periods twice in the past. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (630) 801-6682.
