Report of shooting turns out to be hoax

A 911 call reporting that someone had been shot Tuesday afternoon in a home on the 500 block of South Wille Street in Mount Prospect was a hoax, police said.

According to a news release, officers arrived at 2:51 p.m. but found nobody inside the home. Officers were able to reach the homeowner over the phone and then determined the call was an incident of "swatting."

Investigators believe the person who placed the bogus call is located in another state. Anyone with information about the crime should call police at (847) 870-5654.
