School bus driver needs to obey laws

Upon leaving Condell Medical Center on Feb. 4, I took Crane Boulevard out to Butterfield Road to go home to Fox Lake.

As I approached Nicholas-Dowden Park at 3:45 p.m. and the stop sign at Dawes, a school bus, #317, from Lakeside Bus Service pulled out of the parking lot right in front of me almost creating a collision.

The driver also cut the parking lot corner so tight the bus' rear axle and tires went over the curb and bushes, almost tipping the bus over. From Dawes and Crane to Butterfield and Crane is about three blocks, the drive of this bus was able to get up to 42 mph in that short distance, which is clearly posted 30 mph.

When the driver turned onto Butterfield Road to go north, the driver again inappropriately accelerated to a speed way over the posted speed on Butterfield Road -- 45 mph in a posted 35 mph area.

This is a dangerous driver who is endangering our children if this driver behaves in the same manner when there are children on the bus. The color yellow and words school bus does not absolve the driver from following the law, and obeying it. Lakeside Services had better take a closer look at their drivers and educate them to the fact that they are not above the law when driving a bus full of our children.
