Algonquin man gets 6 years in prison for 6th DUI

An Algonquin man who told a police officer, "You got me," when he was found slumped over the steering wheel of his car drunk was sentenced to six years in prison Monday after earning his sixth drunken driving conviction.

Kurt T. Boyle, 51, of the 1000 block of North Harrison Street, pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI stemming from his March 22, 2007, in the parking lot of a Lake in the Hills strip mall.

The conviction is the latest in a string of DUI offenses for Boyle dating back to 1978, when he was arrested three times for drunken driving in a two month span, according to court documents. He also was arrested for DUIs in 1993 and 2003, records state.

Despite that past, Boyle received the minimum 6-year term Monday because since his latest arrest, he has been through substance abuse rehabilitation, admitted he is an alcoholic and tried to change his ways, his attorney, Jeffrey Rouhandeh said.

The most recent arrest occurred when a Lake in the Hills police officer on patrol found Boyle's car stopped diagonally in a parking lot, the vehicle taking up four parking spaces. When the officer approached, he found Boyle in the driver's seat, his head over the steering wheel. An empty bottle of vodka sat in passenger's seat.

"The officer asked if he was all right and the defendant stated: 'You got me. I'm drunk,'" Assistant McHenry County State's Attorney Simeon Kim said.

Later asked to step out of the car to take sobriety tests, Boyle refused, again telling the officer, "I'm drunk," Kim said.
