Scouting Schaumburg @ Fremd
Schaumburg (3-2, 1-0) at Fremd (5-0, 1-0)
When 7:30 p.m. today at Hale Hildebrandt Field
Last week Schaumburg d. Palatine 28-21; Fremd d. Barrington 35-14
Outlook The MSL's No. 3 defense from Fremd faces the No. 2 offense in Schaumburg, which has won three straight after losses to state-ranked Maine South and Prospect. Last year the Saxons just missed ending what is now a seven-game losing streak in a series Fremd leads 14-8 after it pulled out a wild 37-35 win in the final seconds. "One of the things we've focused on since the summer started is taking advantage of opportunities in general," said Schaumburg coach Mark Stilling. "That holds true in particular in a game like this. Fremd is opportunistic defensively (plus-13 in turnovers) and offensively they do a great job of controlling the football." Fremd coach Mike Donatucci said after last week's win that the offensive line's sustained drives "kept us off the field" defensively and also paved the way for RB Evan Wright and a breakout game for QB Rich Concialdi. Schaumburg gets two of its top offensive linemen back this week in Mario Echevarria (knee) and Richard Barnes to go with dangerous RB Warren Brewer and QB Mark Iannotti. "We realize there are a lot of things we still need to work on," Stilling said. "On the inside we're not sitting there thinking or saying we've played to the best of our ability."
