Lake in the Hills teen charged with rape of 15-year-old

A 17-year-old Lake in the Hills man was behind bars in the McHenry County jail Wednesday, accused of raping a 15-year-old female acquaintance Monday afternoon.

Cody L. Flores, of the 1300 block of Cunat Court, faces charges of criminal sexual assault, criminal sexual abuse and criminal trespass, stemming from the incident at a residence in town.

Police began investigating the claims about 7 p.m. Monday when officers were called to a hospital where the girl was receiving treatment, Deputy Police Chief Mary Frake said.

"This is not a situation of a stranger assault," said Frake, adding that Flores and the girl were not dating. "They do know one another."

He was arrested Tuesday and taken to the jail in Woodstock. A judge set his bond at $200,000 during a brief court appearance Wednesday morning and he remained in custody late in the day, unable to post the $20,000 cash needed to go free while the case is pending.

Flores, who could face up to 15 years in prison if found guilty of all the charges, is scheduled to return to court Sept. 9.

Flores' attorney, William Gracik, was not immediately available for comment.
