Carpentersville woman gets 30 days in jail for bomb threat to work
A Carpentersville woman who resorted to a drastic, and illegal, measure to get a day off work will pay for it with 30 days in jail.
Glenda E. Williams, 20, of the 100 block of Woodland Court, was ordered to spend 15 weekends in the McHenry County jail under a plea deal in which she admitted to having a friend phone a bomb threat to her employer so she wouldn't have to go to work that day.
The threat did not work out as planned. Left in a voice mailbox at Follett Library Services on a Friday afternoon, nobody at the McHenry-based company heard the message until the following Monday, by which time it was determined to be an obvious hoax.
Police traced the call back to Williams and instead of a day off, she found herself out of work and facing felony charges.
Williams pleaded those felonies down Monday to a misdemeanor attempted disorderly conduct charge and, along with the time in jail, was sentenced to two years probation and a $500 fine. Her attorney declined to comment afterward.
Her friend, Jerrod Smith, 20, of Crest Hill, pleaded guilty in March to a felony disorderly conduct charge and was sentenced to 90 days in jail, 24 months probation and a $500 fine.
