One killed in Dundee Twp. crash
Relatives of a Fox Lake man who was killed in a three-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Dundee Township said the father of two was a caring father and loving son who was always willing to help others.
Jamie Konietzko, of the 100 block of Scenic Drive, died after the plumbing van he was driving veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into two vehicles on Route 31 north of Miller Road north of Carpentersville.
An initial Kane County Sheriff's Department investigation says Konietzko was driving a 2006 Chevy van southbound on Route 31, about a mile north of Miller Road, when he crossed into northbound traffic as he rounded a curve and struck a 1999 Chevrolet 3500 truck, according to a release.
After hitting the truck, the van continued south on Route 31 and struck a trailer being towed by a 2000 Chevrolet 2500 pick up truck.
In a release, Kane County Sheriff's Department spokesman Lt. Patrick Gengler said Konietzko was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin. He died later.
Konietzko was driving a Center Guard plumbing truck.
His mother, Lucinda Tobolik, said her son had worked for the company for about 20 years. Center Guard is owned by Konietzko's brother-in-law, Tobolik said.
Gengler said the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation.
"He was just a great guy," Tobolik said. "He was a loving son and a caring father. He was always there to help everybody."
Tobolik said Konietzko, who has two children ages 12 and 14, moved to his parents' Fox Lake home five years ago to provide care for his parents.
Route 31 was closed from the Kane/McHenry County line to Miller Road in Carpentersville for about four hours.
There were no other injuries, and no citations have been issued, a news release said.
