Clothes Mentor store coming to Glendale Heights

Clothes Mentor, an upscale women's resale chain, is expanding to Glendale Heights.

The store is expected to open Saturday, Sept. 26, at 146 E. Army Trail Road, just east of Bloomingdale Road.

Elaine Krieger owns the Glendale Heights business. She also owns other stores with the same name in Schaumburg, Naperville and Orland Park.

Clothes Mentor features upscale clothing and purses from better specialty or department stores. Shoppers can expect to find prices 80 percent less than they would find in regular stores. For example, Talbot's jackets go for $15 instead of $80, Ann Taylor short-sleeve sweater knit tops are $10 and Cache jeans are $18 instead of $90, Krieger said. Coach purses range from $50 to $100 instead of $150 to $200.

Everything at the shop is like-new, clean and organized like a retail store.

Clothes Mentor focuses on women in their 30s through 60s with the brands they most desire, the owner said.

Other brands found at the store include Nordstrom, Ralph Lauren, DKNY, Eddie Bauer and Louis Vuitton. The chain also carries maternity cloths and shoes.

Krieger, who owns nine resale stores, must inspect and price each item that's offered. She pays cash on the spot for acceptable clothing.

The Naperville mom started opening franchises catering to children -- Once Upon a Child -- and teens -- Plato's Closet.

A couple of years ago she expanded to women, launching Clothes Mentor.
