Jordan Meyer earns Eagle Scout rank
On Saturday, Aug. 22, the Boy Scouts of America welcomed a new Eagle Scout into their ranks.
An Eagle Court of Honor was held for Eagle Scout Jordan Meyer at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Schaumburg. Meyer, who is 14½, is an active member of Troop 392, which meets at Our Saviour United Methodist Church, Schaumburg.
The Court of Honor ceremony celebrated Meyer's scouting career, which started in first grade as a Tiger Cub in Pack 196.
His Boy Scout career took him through the ranks quickly, earning First Class in 10 months. He has held many leadership positions in the troop and some of the awards he's received include the Frostfire Award and the Mile Swim.
Meyer has also earned the following religious awards: God and Me, God and Family, and God and Church. This past summer, he completed the National Youth Leadership Training program, the highest available training for a Boy Scout.
In addition, he currently has earned 33 merit badges, including Nuclear Science, Insect Study, and Archaeology.
For his Eagle project, Meyer refurbished the playground at St. Peter's Lutheran Church and School. Several pieces of playground equipment were scraped, sanded, primed and painted.
New chains and swings were provided for the two swing sets. The old sandbox, which had no cover, was removed and replaced with a new one, which Meyer designed and volunteers in the troop helped to cut and build. The project took over 350 hours to plan, coordinate, and complete.
Jordan's accomplishment was recognized by many people. Among those present were Rodney Craig, mayor of Hanover Park and several scouters from the Northwest Suburban Council, Pathfinder District, and Troop 392. Brian Sutilla, the senior district executive from Sioux Falls, S.D. also participated in the ceremony. Sutilla had been the Pathfinder district executive when Meyer was in Cub Scouts and really made an impact on his scouting career. Meyer surprised Sutilla by naming him as his mentor.
Meyer's scouting plans include staying active in his troop and getting involved in a Venturing Crew. He will also be attending the National Jamboree in a leadership position next summer and looks forward to further adventures in scouting.
