Skate competition coming to Schaumburg
The Schaumburg Park District will put its new skate park at Olympic Park to full use June 28 with a skate competition from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Skaters from 7 to 18 years old can show off their skills in front of judges from FA Skates & Snowboards. Prizes will be awarded to the top competitors.
The entrance fee is $10 for park district residents and $15 for nonresidents. Preregistration is required.

Triathlon & Duathlon: Now is the time to register for the Schaumburg Park District's annual Triathlon & Duathlon on July 13.
The race will begin at 6:45 a.m. that day at the Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way, and end at the Bock Recreation Center at 1223 W. Sharon Lane.
There are two options for this chip-timed event. The triathlon is a 400-meter swim, 15-mile bike ride and 5K run, while the duathlon is a 15-mile bike ride sandwiched between two 5K runs.
Multiple age divisions are available.
Entries received by 5 p.m. Monday are at the reduced rates of $42 for individuals and $115 for teams. Entries received after 5 p.m. June 23 and up to the deadline of 5 p.m. July 2 are $46 for individuals and $127 for teams.
Team entries are accepted for the triathlon only. The entrance fee includes an event T-shirt. There will be no registrations after July 2 and no race-day registrations.
Check-in, body marking, chip assignment and pick-up begins at 5:15 a.m. July 13. There will be a pre-race briefing at 6 a.m.

LEGOcamp and a preschool: The park district's Shephard Early Childhood Center will hold a LEGO camp for 6- to 9-year-olds from 9 to 10 a.m. this Monday through Friday.
The interactive camp will be dedicated completely to LEGOs. The children's imaginations will guide instructors through a creative week of construction.
Children will have an opportunity to work independently and cooperatively on projects while taking home a picture portfolio of their creations.
On the last day, children will showcase their favorite creations for their parents.
The center will also offer a preschool in July program on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for 3- to 5-year-olds from July 7 through 25. These classes will meet from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on those days.
The program will have both an English- and Japanese-speaking teacher to enhance the experience.
