District 200 chose politics over learning
Wheaton Warrenville School District 200's decision not to let the children of District 200 hear President Obama's speech live is very disappointing.
Instead of his nonpolitical message to students to work hard and stay in school, the message becomes "We don't listen or talk to people unless they agree with us and look like us."
The decision is clearly politically motivated. We don't recall any hue and cry against the talks of Presidents Reagan and H.W. Bush to our school children. The board's decision in this matter is another example of the disturbing trend in this country that politics is more important than the good of the people.
Politics aside, children at the very least should be taught to respect the office of the president.
Sadly, next week they will learn to respect the presidency only if the "correct" party is in office.
