Bears sign a cornerback, waive a wide receiver
To help bolster their pass defense, the Bears signed six-year NFL veteran cornerback Rod Hood to a one-year contract Tuesday.
Hood was cut by the Cleveland Browns on Monday and is expected to take the field today with the Bears.
The team cut wide receiver Derek Kinder to make room on the 75-man roster.
Terms of Hood's deal were not disclosed.
Hood was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2003 as an undrafted free agent. In six seasons with the Eagles (2003-06) and Arizona Cardinals (2007-08), Hood has appeared in 84 games with 42 starts, including 30 over the last two seasons.
Hood has recorded 203 tackles, 11 interceptions, 68 passes defensed, 5 fumble recoveries, 41 special teams tackles and 3 touchdowns (2 interception return scores and 1 blocked field goal return TD).
The Auburn product has also appeared in 11 NFL postseason contests with six starts, recording 26 tackles, 1 interception and 8 passes defensed.
Kinder was a seventh-round selection (251st overall) in this year's NFL Draft out of the University of Pittsburgh, where he caught 131 passes for 1,646 yards and 13 touchdowns.
The Bears roster must be reduced to 53 players by Saturday.
