Senior picnic is Tuesday

The Mount Prospect Senior Advisory Council will hold its annual indoor picnic noon Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Village Hall Community Center, 50 S. Emerson St., Mount Prospect. Hot dogs, potato salad, lemonade, dessert and coffee will be served for only $2 to all adults. Bingo will be played; reservations are not necessary. For information, call (847) 870-5680.

Senate approves flood work

The Senate has approved $6.8 million in funding in the government's upcoming fiscal year for the $26 million Levee 37 Des Plaines River project on which ground was broken last spring. The money is being used to construct a levee on the west side of the river in Mount Prospect and Prospect Heights. The Senate also approved $500,000 for studies of tributaries of the river to determine how to further stem river flooding, reduce tributary flooding and restore degraded ecosystems in the river basin, Sen. Dick Durbin's office said. Another $200,000 was approved for a Lake County study of wetland preservation and restoration to improve flood control.

Foreclosure forum scheduled

State Rep. Fred Crespo will host a workshop on foreclosure at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5. The free program will be held in room 214 of the Hanover Park village hall, 2121 W. Lake St. Representatives of the Illinois Attorney General's office, Chase Bank and Bank of America will discuss how to cut through bureaucratic red tape to get mortgage payments under control. Coffee talk in Hanover Park

Hanover Park's elected officials hosts their first Coffee with the Board event from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at village hall, 2121 W. Lake St. Residents are invited to ask questions and discuss issues regarding village services and policies. Coffee with the Board will be held quarterly.

Chamber fundraiser set

The Des Plaines Chamber of Commerce & Industry will conduct a fundraiser benefiting its Scholarship Foundation from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 20 at Cheeseburger in Paradise, 1472 Market St., Des Plaines.
