Cutler watch

Working against the scout team in preparation for Saturday's preseason opener, quarterback Jay Cutler completed 10 of 12 passes in 11-on-11 and was focused on fine-tuning his timing with starters Devin Hester and Earl Bennett. Bennett caught 4 passes and Hester 3, all of them in the short to intermediate range. Cutler misfired high to Hester once and low to Bennett on a ball that could have been caught.

Offensive coordinator Ron Turner is considering giving Cutler a tad more playing time than some other starters just because he and his receivers are still working on their rapport. But Cutler is expected to call it a night before halftime.

"He's not going to play a ton this first game," Turner said. "He'll play more as it goes on. Maybe he'll play a little more than if he were in the system a couple years, but not much."
