Sugar Grove woman admits counterfeiting

A 39-year-old Sugar Grove woman Wednesday admitted producing counterfeit money and was sentenced to 62 days in jail, probation and community service.

Shirley A. Ryckman, of the 1200 block of Dorr Drive, pleaded guilty to felony forgery and was sentenced in a negotiated plea accepted by Kane County Judge James C. Hallock, according to court records.

Under the agreement, Ryckman was ordered to complete 30 months of probation and 200 hours of community service. She already has served half of the jail sentence since her arrest July 30 and will be released in about a month.

Police said Ryckman printed batches of phony bills, mostly $20s, using home computer equipment, then passed them to an accomplice who bought low-value items to get legitimate change at local garage sales, businesses and the annual Sugar Grove Corn Boil in July.

The accused accomplice, 56-year-old Doris R. Adamson of Elburn, also is charged with two counts of forgery. She has not entered a plea and is due back in court Sept. 29.

Ryckman can have no contact with Adamson, according to the judge's orders.
