Fox Lake golf outing:
Docker's Duffers will host its annual golf outing, Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Fox Lake Country Club at 7220 State Park Road. The cost is $95 per person, which includes dinner, a sandwich and a beverage at the start of the turn. Dinner will be at Docker's Restaurant, 33 W. Grand Ave., Fox Lake. New security chief at Rosalind Franklin University:
Gordon Blanchard has been named the director of campus security at Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago. Blanchard has more than 20 years of police and security experience, including civilian and military positions, school officials said. He will manage a force of 13 security officers and three full-time staffers. He will assist in development of safety policies and procedures, and directing the total department budget. Blanchard is responsible for the safety of more than 2,500 faculty, staff and students on the university campus. He began his professional career as a military police officer with the U.S. Army in Fishbach, Germany and Ft. Polk, La. for three years. Twilight shuffle:
The Twilight Shuffle 5K Run/Walk returns to downtown Libertyville at 6 p.m. Sept. 6. Racers aged 9 and older will negotiate a hilly 3.12-mile course through the neighborhoods of downtown Libertyville. Online registration is available at www.signmeup.com/65449 through Aug. 28. Chip timing for added accuracy and more youth age brackets have been added. The post-race party, which includes dinner, will be at Mickey Finn's Brewery on Milwaukee Avenue across from Cook Park. Registered racers and children under 12 are free. Admission is $10 for family members. Race entry fees are $30 (ages 18+) and $20 (ages 9-17) before Aug. 28 and $40 (ages 18+) and $25 (ages 9-17) after Aug. 28. Advance registration is encouraged, but race-day registration is 4 to 5 p.m. Sept. 6 at the race start/finish area on Newberry Avenue. All racers will receive a goody bag, and the first 500 registered racers will also receive a Twilight Shuffle T-shirt. Benefit concert:
A benefit concert for Joyce Francis, who has multiple myeloma, will be 7 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25 at Flatlander's Restaurant & Brewery, 300 Village Green, Lincolnshire. The Cleavers and The Class of `68, `60s and `70s tribute bands top the bill. Francis is the manager of the Class of `68. Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the bone marrow blood plasma cells. A $20 fee for adults includes a drink ticket and mini-buffet; $10 for those under 21 includes unlimited soft drinks. Donations also can be made to St. Philip Luther Church, 2500 West Bryn Mawr Ave., Chicago. Put "Joyce" in the memo field.
