It's official: Dvoracek out for the season with torn ACL
As expected, the Bears announced Friday that defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ACL in his right knee.
An MRI examination was not conclusive so doctors used an arthroscopic procedure to confirm the tear, and then they repaired the damage Friday morning.
In three seasons, the 6-foot-3, 303-pound Dvoracek has been hampered by injuries that have limited his play to 13 games.
Bears coach Lovie Smith said earlier in the week the Bears have enough depth at nose tackle to overcome the loss of Dvoracek, who will now need seven to 10 months of rehab to strengthen the knee.
"Anthony Adams has played very well throughout. Marcus Harrison has been a good football player for us. Matt Toeaina can play it, too, so we're in pretty good shape," Smith said.
Adams played well last preseason but then was inactive for seven of the first 12 games and played briefly in the other five. But, in the final five games of the season, Adams had 26 tackles, according to Bears statistics, more than any other lineman on the team.
