5 arrested in beating near Streamwood Jewel-Osco store

Two teens and three juveniles were arrested Tuesday after police said a man at the Jewel-Osco at 217 E. Irving Park Road in Streamwood was beaten during an encounter with the group.

Aaron Ballard, 17, of the 200 block of East Garfield in Chicago, was charged with battery, mob action involving violence to a person or property and disorderly conduct.

Brittnan D. Spann, 17, of 24 Jefferson Lane, Streamwood, was charged with mob action and disorderly conduct.

Likewise, only one of the three juveniles was charged with the same three offenses as Ballard, while the other two shared only the same two charges as Spann.

The incident occurred at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday. A police report said the victim later picked Ballard and Spann out of a lineup, identifying Ballard as the member of the group who'd struck him in the face.

Ballard, whose bond was set at $3,000 Wednesday, is due in back court Aug. 13. He was on probation for a 2008 robbery, prosecutors said. Spann, whose bond was unavailable, got a court date of Sept. 16.

The juvenile who received the battery charge was referred to juvenile court. The other two are scheduled to appear in court Sept. 10.
