National Night Out in Mount Prospect

The Mount Prospect Police Department and the River Trails Park District will sponsor the village's 26th annual celebration of National Night Out at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at Woodland Trails Park, 1500 E. Euclid Ave.

Highlights include a dodgeball double elimination tournament of children and adults. All players will receive free tournament T-shirts.

There will be free swimming and mini-golf, provided by the River Trails Park District, and free popcorn provided by Midwest Bank and Trust.

In the event of rain, the festivities will be held Aug. 5.

Retiree classes in Mount Prospect

A series of classes will be held on Tuesdays Aug. 4, 11, 18 and 25 for pre-retirees and retirees.

Topics include retirement planning, fixed income (CD's, bonds), annuities, insurance, stocks and mutual funds.

Classes will be held at the Village of Mount Prospect, 50 S. Emerson Street, 1st floor Community Center, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There is no charge, but registration is requested at (847) 870-5680.

License services in Buffalo Grove

State Mobile Driver Services will be available in Buffalo Grove from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at the Buffalo Grove Park District Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive.

Services offered include duplicate licenses, corrected licenses, driver license renewal, identification cards and renewal stickers. A Rules of the Road review class will begin at 10 a.m. Vision screenings are 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Individuals 74 and under, within one year of the expiration date of their driver's license, may renew their license. Identification cards are issued to all ages.

Bring your Social Security card along with two original forms of ID that have your name, date of birth, residency and signature. Services limited to the first 100 people; no preregistration allowed.

Golf course has 30th anniversary

Arlington Lakes Golf Club is celebrating its 30th anniversary with half-price rounds of golf between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, 23 and 30 and on Saturday, Aug. 29.

The big celebration is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, and Sunday, Aug. 30.

Donate Legos for Clearbrook

In honor of the anniversary of Legoland Discovery Center in Schaumburg, everyone who donates at least 10 Lego bricks through Friday, Aug. 7, will receive half off admission.

The LEGOs will be used to build a 10-foot-tall birthday candle for Clearbrook in Arlington Heights.

Legoland regular admission is $15 for children, $19 for adults and $17 for seniors, with annual passes for $37.50 per child. Call (847) 592-9700.

Arlington Library gets Gates grant

The Arlington Heights Memorial Library will get three new computers under a program where they are required to match money from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with local dollars to show they can sustain investments in technology access in the future.

Arlington Heights is the only library in Northwest Cook County that is in line for a grant. Factors in eligibility included being willing to raise matching funds and serving a population that is at least 10 percent low income.
