CARS program vs. automotive bailout
I am marveling at the response to the CARS (Car Allowance Rebate System - aka Cash for Clunkers) program and how many vehicles are being sold in a short period of time. Is the U.S. Auto industry on the rebound?
Why didn't any of our great political leaders implement the program before giving the automakers bailout money? Does this program feel like a secondary bailout plan for the auto industry at the taxpayers' expense?
If the CARS program was in place earlier, we could have avoided the government's automotive bailout or reduce the amount of the bailout and saved the taxpayers a lot of money.
The politicians need to slow down the number of knee jerk reactions to both small and large scale problems - including the health care plan. If they want examples of knee jerk reactions to current problems just ask the Chicago City Council - foie gras ban (repealed), vehicular cell phone use (unenforced), parking meters, etc.
