Records to be destroyed

Geneva School District 304 will destroy special education records from the 2003-04 school year of students who graduated, transferred or were dismissed from special services. If a parent or student wants those records, call the Student Services Office before Aug. 31 at (630) 463-3061. Copies of the rules and regulations that govern student records are available for inspection at each school site and at the district office. Special education records can include reports of psychological and social work evaluations, multidisciplinary planning conferences, annual reviews, copies of individualized education programs and other relevant information.

Free concerts in Geneva

Geneva Park District's final free concert of the season will feature Members Only at 7 tonight at Island Park, State Street and the Fox River.

Battle of the Bands on tap:

Musicians ages 13 to 19 have until July 31 to register for Fox Valley Park District's first "Battle of the Bands." Interested bands need to submit an entry form, a CD of three songs and a copy of the lyrics for each song. Applicants will be notified by the end of August whether they have been selected for the competition that will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sept. 26 at Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave., Aurora. The entry fee is $30; the fee will be returned to bands not selected for the final competition. For details, contact Katie Grafton at (630) 859-8606.

Elburn bike map

The village of Elburn along with the League of Illinois Bicyclists has released the Bike to Metra guide. The guide contains a map with preferred routes around the Metra station as well as bicycling and railroad safety tips. "This is another way that the village can encourage alternative transportation use," said Erin Willrett, Elburn's community development director. The guide was funded by the Public Education and Enforcement Research Study grant from the Illinois Commerce Commission. Obtain a copy at the village hall, 301 E. North St., or at elburn.il.us.

Marines plan golf outing

The Fox Valley Marine Corps League is seeking sponsorships and registration for its annual golf outing at noon Aug. 5 at Tamarack Golf Course, 24032 Royal Worlington Drive, Naperville. Sponsorships are available from $100 for a hole sponsor to $1,000 for a presenting sponsor. Reservations for golf and dinner cost $95; dinner only is $50.
