Doggone it: Pet food store won't be opening in Algonquin
Many of you have been e-mailing, wondering when the new Kriser's pet store is opening along Randall Road in Algonquin.
The sign has been up for months.
And many of you have been driving up to the store just north of Algonquin Commons periodically, hoping to see it open one of these days.
Krisers' six other locations are known for their all-natural pet food and products for cats, dogs, fish, birds, reptiles and more. Local residents have been calling and emailing, saying they were eager for a store offering those alternatives to come to the area.
Unfortunately, the natural pet food store is no longer coming to the Randall Road corridor.
They had to scrap their plans to open this store.
"Unfortunately with the economy being in the state it's in, it's a risk we couldn't take," said Siobhan Malloy, the assistant manager at the Kriser's along Route 72 in Barrington.
"We had to cancel plans for that store. It's too bad. I'm sorry."
A chance to meet Oliver: If you head to Geneva Commons on Aug. 14 you could win a chance to meet Mitchell Musso.
For those non-Hannah Montana fans, that's Oliver from the popular show.
From 5 to 6 p.m., the Radio Disney road crew will be at the mall for a back-to-school bash.
There will be a grand prize drawing that night, with one winner getting a family four-pack of tickets and a meeting and greet session with Musso the next night at the House of Blues.
The hunt continues: The folks at Barley House along Randall Road in Algonquin are at it again with their monthly scavenger hunt.
First, it was bacon Band-aids they were after. Then a "Brady Bunch" style tiki necklace.
This month, the challenge is a little easier -- provided you were born before 1985.
They're looking for an eight-track tape. Anyone who brings one in during the month of August will get $10 off of their meal, if you spend at least $30.
And everyone who brings one in, also will be registered to win a $50 Barley House gift card.
If you were born after 1985, you might need to look this one up and head out to some garage sales to snag one. Unfortunately, I wasn't and I'm sure I could raid my parents' basement to find plenty of these relics.
However, there is a limit of one eight-track per table.
Their second challenge is an easy one for 80's TV geeks, which I guess I am. If you let them know what television show this was, and email the answer to info@barley-house.com, you'll get a free flatbread pizza.
The clues are: the show ran from 1981 to 1983, the theme song went to number 2 on Aug. 15, 1981, and the show stared Connie Selleca and Robert Culp.
Believe it or not, it was an easy one for me. I happen to have that song on 45 and can still sing the entire song for you by heart.
