McHenry man dies after crashing into tree

A 62-year-old McHenry man died Wednesday after passing out and crashing into a tree in McHenry, authorities said.

The crash took place around 1:45 p.m. on Green Street, also known as Barreville Road, south of Bull Valley Road.

"It appears he had some kind of medical issue, and he lost consciousness while he was traveling northbound on Green Street," McHenry Deputy Police Chief John Jones said.

The 1992 Toyota Camry swerved into the southbound lane then back into the northbound lane before crashing into the tree to the east of the road.

Emergency crews had to cut through the roof to extricate the driver, Alfonso Veneziano, and his three passengers. Veneziano was flown to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

McHenry police and the McHenry County Coroner are still trying to determine the medical issue that led to Veneziano's death.

Veneziano's 38-year-old wife, Traci, a 10-year-old boy and an 11-year-old boy were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said. Traci was in good condition, her son was in stable condition and her nephew sustained minor injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
