Probation for man charged in Algonquin bar fight

A Crystal Lake man avoided trial - and a possibly lengthy prison term - by pleading guilty Monday to a charge he cut a man across the face with a sharp object during a 2007 bar brawl in Algonquin.

Giuseppe Fasolo, 33, of the 300 block of Corrine Avenue, admitted guilt to a felony charge of aggravated battery as part of a plea bargain entered on the morning he was scheduled to face trial.

Under the deal worked out with McHenry County prosecutors, Fasolo was placed on nonreporting probation for a year, fined $500 and ordered to pay $4,262 restitution to his victim.

In return, prosecutors dismissed two other charges, including one that carried a mandatory six- to 30-year prison term if he were convicted.

The charges stemmed from a March 24, 2007 altercation in which, court documents say, Fasolo struck a 27-year-old Woodstock man across the face with a sharp object, causing a cut.

The fight occurred after two groups of men became embroiled in a dispute inside a tavern on the 3900 block of West Algonquin Road. The men, authorities said, took the dispute to the bar's parking lot, where the cutting incident took place.
