Mount Prospect detective retiring next week
Longtime Mount Prospect Police Department Detective Robert Riordan will retire after more than 26 years of service.
Riordan held a wide variety of specialty positions over the course of his career, including those of field training officer, arson investigator, hostage negotiator, youth officer, evidence technician and breath test operator. His reputation as a skillful and competent detective led to his selection as a member of the Major Case Assistance Team, a Northwest suburban Chicago violent crime task force, in 1998.
Over the course of his career, Riordan received both Officer of the Year (2008) and Officer of the Year Runner-up honors (1984, 1991, 1996, 2006), dozens of department commendations and honorable mentions, the Cook County Sheriff's Law Enforcement Award of Merit, the Major Case Assistance Team Investigator of the Year award and numerous citizen letters of appreciation.
Riordan's last day will be Monday, Dec. 28.
