Safe Kids to inspect bike helmets, car seats
Accidental childhood injury is the leading cause of death for children younger than 14. To promote awareness and safety, Safe Kids of McHenry County will perform car seat and helmet safety checks at the Centegra Health Campus-Huntley Grand Opening event Saturday, July 18.
The community is invited to celebrate the grand opening of Centegra Health Campus-Huntley and Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 18 at the new campus, 10350 Haligus Road, west of Tom's Market.
In addition to free food, reduced-priced sports physicals, open swim at the new outdoor pool from 2-4 p.m. and tours of the new campus also will be featured during the event.
Safe Kids, an international organization dedicated to preventing the death of young children due to accidental injury, provides these safety checks to ensure that children are safe when they travel both by bike and car. So bring your helmets and car seats for free safety checks. In addition, Centegra Health System will present free specially fitted bike helmets to the first 300 children to arrive.
Safe Kids of McHenry County will be assisted by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois Department of Transportation Division of Traffic Safety.
Children are encouraged to ride their bikes to the event. The Huntley Police Department will conduct a bike rodeo to promote bicycle safety.
To register for a sports physical, call (877) 236-8347. The first 300 families will receive a free canvas tote.
