Crash victim identified

The 13-year-old boy who died in a rollover crash Saturday evening in Hanover Park has been identified as David Vega of Chicago. A DuPage County coroner's office spokesman said David died of massive head injuries. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway near Lake Street. State Police Sgt. Chris Melvin said Marissa Vega, David's mother, was driving the minivan carrying David and three adult passengers when she lost control for unknown reasons. David was ejected from the minivan, which rolled over on top of him. He was not wearing a seat belt, Melvin said. A spokeswoman for St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates said Marissa Vega was transferred to another facility and that the two passengers admitted have since been discharged. The DuPage County state's attorney's office is reviewing the case.
