Consider the source, then form opinion

Today (July 18) we were treated to another of those predictable rants against Universal Health Care. This time a Mr. Nielsen was the standard-bearer. There are several things we can safely deduce from his letter.

One, Mr. Nielsen has health insurance. Two, Mr. Nielsen is not paying the full premium for his health care. Three, Mr. Nielsen is not paying taxes on the hundreds of dollars each month that he is being subsidized for health care. And, last but not least, Mr. Nielsen would be a paid up member of the Whiners of America if he were to lose his subsidized, tax free health care.

Most people who rail against universal coverage raise the storm warning flag of "socialized medicine." First, no one has suggested the socialized medicine approach and they wouldn't know what socialized medicine was if it was beating them across the forehead with a stick. Their knowledge of the subject generally comes from the idiot blogs that have so insidiously invaded our lives.

As someone who has some rather extensive experience with socialized medicine (first in the military and then through the VA) I have never wanted for needed care, I have never been on a waiting list. Neither were my dependents. My son recently retired from the military and he and his family have never been on a waiting list.

It is fine and dandy to be for or against something. But you should at least know something about a subject before you take a position. The trouble with getting your information from blogs and such is that you don't know how clever or ignorant the originator is.
