Antioch Library wins books:
The Antioch Public Library is one of 4,000 public and school libraries that will receive a free collection of the classics for the sixth annual "We the People" bookshelf, according to the National Endowment for the Humanities. The library will receive 17 hardcover books for young readers (K-12) related to this year's theme, "Picturing America." The library will use the classic books to develop educational programming and events that engage young readers. Educational programs to accompany the Bookshelf will be conducted between now and April 30, 2010. The library is at 757 N. Main St. Call (847) 95-0874.
Recycle plastic bags:
A new task force aiming to increase recycling of plastic bags will announce its plans at 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Foods, 1451 Peterson Road, Libertyville. State Sen. Terry Link, state Rep. Sandy Cole and Lake County Board member Ann Maine are among the scheduled speakers.
Yearbooks available:
Mundelein High School students can pick up their 2008-09 yearbooks 7-9:30 p.m. on Friday, July 24, in the north gym. A limited number of yearbooks will be available for sale for $55. Students unable to attend the event can get their yearbooks between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday, July 27, in Ron Girard's office or beginning Monday, Aug. 3, in the school bookstore.
Fox Lake says 'no parking':
The Village of Fox Lake has established "no parking" zones along three streets: Jack Frost Lane; Lakeside Road and a 30-foot portion of Lakeview Road.
Blood drive in Lake Zurich:
The Lake Zurich Fire Department hosts a blood drive challenge from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 25. The Lake Zurich Lions Club is offering $5 in Alpine Bucks to donors, which can be used for rides, food and drinks at the nearby Alpinefest happening the same day.
